Mumbai: Actress Bhumi Pednekar recently shared a nerve-wracking behind-the-scenes moment involving superstar Akshay Kumar during an appearance on the Indian version of Wheel of Fortune.
Recounting the incident, Bhumi revealed how a seemingly harmless conversation turned into a terrifying prank while they were filming Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. Knowing her fear of speed, Akshay casually asked if she was afraid of bikes. “I told him I’m petrified,” she said, relieved at the time that the film didn’t involve any such stunts.
However, things quickly took a turn. While riding together, Akshay suddenly asked her to hold on tight and accelerated the bike. “I completely froze. All I could do was pray,” Bhumi recalled, admitting how shaken she felt in that moment. Akshay, meanwhile, laughed as he remembered the prank.
Released in 2017, the film was directed by Shree Narayan Singh and produced by Akshay Kumar along with Neeraj Pandey. Inspired by real-life issues and aligned with the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the movie combined entertainment with a strong social message.
The story follows Keshav (Akshay Kumar), who marries Jaya (Bhumi Pednekar), only to face a crisis when she leaves after discovering the absence of a toilet in his home. What begins as a personal conflict evolves into a larger fight against deep-rooted societal norms, highlighting issues of sanitation, dignity, and women’s rights in rural India.
Bhumi’s anecdote adds a light yet dramatic glimpse into the camaraderie and mischief that often unfold behind the scenes of Bollywood sets.
