Ranchi — In a major crackdown ahead of the Excise constable recruitment exam, police in Ranchi detained over 100 people on suspicion of involvement in a possible question paper leak, officials said on Sunday.
The action followed a raid in the Rangamati area under the Tamar police station limits, where candidates were allegedly found preparing from what is believed to be leaked exam material.
During the operation, police recovered mobile phones, documents and other items, which are now being closely examined. All detainees have been taken to Tamar police station for interrogation.
Officials said a detailed probe is underway and indicated the possibility of an organised network behind the suspected leak, though no official confirmation has yet been made.
The examination is being conducted across Jharkhand on April 12 at nearly 370 centres in eight districts. Around 1.48 lakh candidates, who had cleared the physical efficiency test, are appearing for 583 vacancies.
Security has been tightened in several districts, including Dhanbad. Acting on directions from SSP Prabhat Kumar, police carried out late-night checks at hotels, lodges and dharamshalas, verifying guests and warning operators against hosting individuals without valid ID.
Authorities have also reiterated strict rules banning mobile phones, smartwatches, Bluetooth devices and other electronic gadgets inside exam centres, cautioning candidates against any malpractice.
