Nora Fatehi controversy: Actress says she raised concerns early, distances herself from project

Mumbai — Actress Nora Fatehi has broken her silence on the controversy surrounding her song “Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke” from the film KD: The Devil, stating that she had flagged concerns at an early stage and has since distanced herself from the project.

In a video shared on Instagram, Nora revealed that she is currently grieving the loss of a close friend and had limited access to updates due to poor network connectivity. Addressing the issue, she clarified that the song was shot three years ago in Kannada as part of the Sandalwood industry.

She said she agreed to the project because it featured actor Sanjay Dutt and was presented to her as a remake of the iconic track Nayak Nahi Khalnayak Hoon Main. Since she does not understand Kannada, she relied on the filmmakers’ translation during the shoot, which did not appear inappropriate at the time.

However, Nora expressed strong objection to the later Hindi version of the song, calling its lyrics inappropriate and claiming she was not informed or consulted before it was created. She also alleged that a lyrical video was released without her approval, using unflattering images, which she said goes against her usual practice of approving visuals.

Additionally, she raised concerns about an AI-generated image featuring her and Sanjay Dutt, stating she is firmly against the use of AI in such contexts. She admitted feeling uncomfortable during the launch event but maintained professionalism in public.

Nora further revealed that she had warned the director about potential backlash after hearing the Hindi version and had clearly communicated her concerns about its impact on her image. She also pointed out that she chose not to promote the project, distancing herself from it.

Reflecting on the situation, the actress said she would be more cautious and selective in future projects. She also thanked people for speaking out, noting that the backlash led to the controversial content being taken down.
