Ranchi — Hemant Soren, Chief Minister of Jharkhand, on Friday launched a major initiative to boost policing infrastructure by flagging off 1,485 new vehicles for the state police and initiating construction of 12 high-tech police stations across different districts.
The event took place at the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly complex in Ranchi, where the Chief Minister formally dispatched the new vehicles to strengthen law enforcement operations.
The fleet consists of 636 four-wheel patrol vehicles, largely Mahindra Bolero BS-6 models, and 849 motorcycles, which are expected to enhance field mobility and improve response times during emergencies.
Officials said the government has approved 1,255 patrol vehicles and 1,697 two-wheelers for the police department, with the current rollout representing the first phase of distribution.
Among the 636 Bolero vehicles distributed, 614 have been allocated to districts, while the remaining vehicles will be used by Quick Response Teams (QRTs) and specialised police units.
Police officials believe the expanded fleet will help strengthen patrol coverage across both urban centres and remote rural areas, improving public safety and operational efficiency.
In addition to strengthening mobility, the government is also focusing on upgrading police infrastructure. During the event, the Chief Minister virtually laid foundation stones for 12 modern police station buildings across the state.
The new stations will come up in Hazaribagh, Bokaro, Deoghar, Dhanbad, Garhwa, Giridih, Palamu, East Singhbhum, Gumla, Ranchi, Dumka, and Chatra.
These facilities will house four specialised police units in a single complex, making it easier for citizens to file complaints and access police services without visiting multiple offices.
Addressing the gathering, Soren said the state government is committed to strengthening the police force through modern equipment, improved infrastructure, and advanced technology.
He emphasised that building a safe and fear-free environment for citizens remains a top priority of the government. Senior officials from the state’s Home Department and police leadership were also present at the event.
