New Delhi- India has been honoured as the ‘Country of the Year’ at BIOFACH 2026, the world’s premier trade fair for organic products, scheduled to take place from February 10 to 13 in Nuremberg, Germany, according to an official statement issued on Tuesday.
The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) is leading India’s participation at the event with a strong and high-profile presence.
India’s participation this year represents a major expansion compared to earlier editions, highlighting the growing global demand for Indian organic products and increased involvement from exporters, industry associations, and Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), the statement noted.
APEDA has established the India Country Pavilion across an area of 1,074 square metres, featuring 67 co-exhibitors. These include exporters of organic produce, FPOs, cooperatives, organic certification laboratories, state government agencies, and commodity boards.
The pavilion will display a diverse range of organic products, including rice, oilseeds, herbs, spices, pulses, cashew, ginger, turmeric, large cardamom, cinnamon, mango puree, and essential oils, among others.
Participants from over 20 states and Union Territories are showcasing their products at the India Pavilion, demonstrating the country’s rich agricultural diversity. These include Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Kerala, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Arunachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Uttarakhand.
The event also highlights region-specific organic produce and value-added food products, underlining India’s consistent expansion in global organic trade.
Apart from product exhibitions, visitors to the India Pavilion will experience curated food tastings that showcase the flavours and aromas of Indian organic produce. Live demonstrations will include aromatic biryani prepared using premium organic basmati rice and spices. Additionally, five Geographical Indication (GI)-tagged rice varieties — Indrayani rice, Navara rice, Gobindbhog rice, Red rice, and Chak Hao (Black rice) — will be served to promote India’s heritage rice varieties.
APEDA has also implemented extensive branding and promotional campaigns at key locations within the Nuremberg Messe Exhibition Centre as part of India’s recognition as the Country of the Year at BIOFACH 2026.
With global focus increasingly shifting towards sustainability and eco-friendly lifestyles, India’s selection as Country of the Year at BIOFACH 2026 further strengthens its position as a leading player in the global organic agriculture sector.
