Additional Administrator inspects Jhiri dump site, CBG plant

Ranchi: Additional Administrator Sanjay Kumar inspected two major projects progressing under the Ranchi Municipal Corporation’s jurisdiction at Jhiri, located along the Ring Road, on Monday. The first project involves the remediation of 1.8 million metric tonnes of legacy waste spread over nearly 33 acres, while the second is GAIL India Limited’s initiative to establish two Compressed Bio Gas (CBG) plants with a combined capacity of 150 metric tonnes per day, aimed at producing clean fuel from municipal waste.

During the site visit, representatives of M/s Guru Ramdas Construction informed that around 325,000 metric tonnes of waste have already been processed. The operation is generating RDF, bio-soil, and inert materials. Sanjay Kumar directed the agency to expedite work, reactivate idle machines, and ensure completion within the stipulated timeline. He also instructed M/s Jonta to prevent fresh dumping on cleared sites and asked the engineering wing to prepare a proposal for pathway construction to facilitate smooth transportation of waste by compactors to the dump yard.

At the CBG plant operated by GAIL, Kumar reviewed current operations and directed Ranchi Municipal Corporation to form a technical team to assess the quality and quantity of waste being supplied. Officials informed that approximately 55 metric tonnes of wet waste are being delivered daily to GAIL. The Additional Administrator emphasized the need to increase wet waste supply for optimal plant functioning.

Appealing to residents, Sanjay Kumar urged citizens to segregate wet and dry waste at source, adopt waste separation as a daily habit, and contribute to a cleaner and more sustainable Ranchi.

The inspection was attended by the Assistant Administrator, Executive Engineer, Assistant Engineer, and representatives from M/s Jonta and M/s Guru Ramdas Construction.
