Ranchi: BJP spokesperson and yoga teacher Rafia Naz has once again attacked the state government over its failure to appoint members to the Jharkhand State Women’s Commission. Criticizing the Hemant government, she said that while it frequently speaks about women’s issues on large platforms, it has not taken steps to fill vacancies in the commission, leaving countless women who face harassment without proper recourse.
Referring to a recent incident, Rafia Naz said that a woman had approached Airport Police Station to register a dowry harassment complaint, but the local police ignored her. She alleged that over 5,000 cases are pending for hearing in the commission, while investigations have not even started in 16,162 cases. In many police stations across the state, files related to crimes against women are reportedly gathering dust. Rafia Naz questioned why the government is not taking the appointment of commission members seriously, noting that earlier, the government used to cite the opposition leader’s non-selection as an excuse, but no such justification exists now.
Rafia Naz also raised concerns over the removal of several beneficiaries’ names from the “Maiya Samman” scheme. She claimed that some students who had previously received the scheme’s benefits, used the funds to purchase gadgets like laptops under EMI, but their names were later removed from the list, creating difficulties for them. She questioned the government’s rationale for first including these women in the beneficiary list and then removing them.
