Ranchi — The official anthem of the 4th South Asian Athletics Federation (SAAF) Senior Athletics Championships, titled “Jharkhand Bharthey Hunkaar, Johar Johar”, has struck an emotional chord with both athletes and locals, quickly becoming the soul of the event in Ranchi.
Penned by Dr. Mranilini Akhouri in Nagpuri, the anthem celebrates the culture, unity, and pride of Jharkhand — blending traditional rhythms with the electrifying spirit of competition. The song, performed by noted singers Jyoti Sahu and Rohan Dev, brims with energy and local flavour, making it an instant hit across stadiums and social media alike.
Produced under the aegis of the Department of Tourism, Art, Culture, Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Jharkhand, the anthem was curated by professional teams from Mumbai and Delhi. It uses indigenous instruments such as the Mandar, Flute, and Nagada, creating a soundscape that is both traditional and contemporary — much like Jharkhand itself.
The anthem’s video vividly portrays the state’s tribal arts, folk dances, and heritage alongside dynamic scenes of athletes in motion, symbolizing Jharkhand’s dual identity — deeply rooted in tradition yet surging forward as a modern sporting hub.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren lauded the anthem, sharing it on social media and commending how beautifully it mirrors the state’s hospitality and progressive spirit.
Adding to its growing appeal, athletes from various South Asian countries were seen dancing to the anthem during practice sessions, proving that its rhythm transcends language and nationality.
With its pulsating beats and stirring lyrics, “Jharkhand Bharthey Hunkaar, Johar Johar” has become more than an anthem — it is a celebration of Jharkhand’s pride, unity, and readiness to welcome South Asia’s finest athletes.
