Ranchi: In a strong push against alleged electoral malpractice, former finance minister and Lohardaga MLA Dr. Rameshwar Oraon submitted 26,000 documents collected under the ‘vote theft signature campaign’ to Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee president Keshav Mahato Kamlesh at the party headquarters in Ranchi today.
The event was attended by Congress media in-charge Rakesh Sinha, office co-in-charge Rajan Verma, and senior leader Khurshid Hasan Roomi, among others.
Addressing the gathering, Keshav Mahato Kamlesh said Congress has launched a nationwide movement in three phases. The third phase, which ran from September 15 to October 15, was marked by the slogan “vote chor, gaddi chhod” and focused on mobilising public opinion through a door-to-door outreach and signature collection drive. He said the party is committed to gathering 2.5 million signatures to protest what it calls a shameless theft of democratic rights. Party leaders at district, block, and mandal levels are leading efforts across the state, but Kamlesh stressed that real impact will come from individual participation.
Dr. Oraon accused the Modi government of stealing votes and exploiting citizens. He said Congress and the people will respond by removing Prime Minister Narendra Modi from power. He added that party workers reached out to households across Lohardaga to raise awareness of what he described as central government oppression and everyday public hardship.
The campaign is part of Congress’ ongoing strategy to rally public support and challenge the Modi-led administration ahead of upcoming elections.
