JMM Leader Hacked to Death in Palamu Over Land Dispute, Accused on the Run

Palamu: Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader Munna Sinha was brutally murdered with sharp-edged weapons on Tuesday morning in Dandar village under Panki block of Jharkhand’s Palamu district, officials said.

According to police, the incident took place while Sinha was ploughing his field with a tractor near his home. At that time, Arun Thakur, Doman Thakur, and several members of their family arrived and confronted him over a long-standing land dispute.

The confrontation quickly turned violent, and the accused allegedly attacked Sinha with sickles and other sharp weapons, inflicting grievous injuries.

Locals rushed the severely wounded Sinha to Medinirai Medical College and Hospital (MMCH) in Daltonganj, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. Medical staff reported that he had sustained deep wounds to his head and neck from repeated blows.

Following the attack, all the accused fled the scene. Police have launched an extensive manhunt, conducting raids at multiple locations to trace and arrest the culprits.

Rajesh Ranjan, officer-in-charge of Panki police station, said, “Preliminary investigations indicate the murder was linked to a land dispute. All the accused are absconding, and efforts are on to apprehend them.” The body has been sent for post-mortem examination at MMCH.

News of the killing sparked widespread anger in the area, with a large number of JMM workers and leaders gathering at the hospital and demanding swift action.

JMM district president Rajendra Kumar Sinha, also known as Guddu Sinha, strongly condemned the murder, alleging a political conspiracy behind it.

“Munna Sinha was a devoted party worker. His killing is not just a land dispute—it appears politically motivated. We demand the immediate arrest of all the culprits,” he said.

Villagers said Sinha had been engaged in a long-running feud with the Thakur family over an agricultural plot. The 42-year-old leader, the only son of his parents, had served as JMM block president of Panki for the past eight years.
