Sahibganj: Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel at Barharwa railway station arrested a man from West Bengal who was allegedly taking a missing Hindu minor girl from Gurugram to Bengal with the intent of marriage and religious conversion. The accused, identified as Sahel Ali from Shurun village in North Dinajpur district, had disguised the girl in a burqa and obtained a fake Aadhaar card in the name of “Reshma Khatun” to conceal her identity.
The girl, originally from Nepal, lives with her parents in Gurugram’s Sector-24, Natopur area. Her father works as a cook and her mother as a domestic help. A student of Class 7, she had been missing since October 9. Her father had filed a missing complaint at Natopur police station after she disappeared. According to family members, the accused Sahel Ali lived in the same neighborhood and had befriended the girl before persuading her to elope.
Police said Sahel first took the girl to Delhi, where he used the help of acquaintances to create a forged Aadhaar card and changed her name. He then boarded the Brahmaputra Mail train toward Bengal, keeping her in a burqa to avoid attention.
At Barharwa station, the girl reportedly grew suspicious of Sahel’s intentions and got off the train. When he followed her and tried to convince her to return, their argument caught the attention of RPF personnel. During questioning, the girl revealed the truth.
The RPF immediately detained both and informed her parents. After verification, the girl was handed over to her family on Sunday evening, while Sahel Ali was taken into custody and later sent to jail.
