Bullish on India, Vietnam’s VinFast Crosses 1 Lakh EV Sales in Just 9 Months of 2025

New Delhi — Vietnamese electric vehicle (EV) giant VinFast has achieved a major milestone by becoming the first automaker in Vietnam to sell over 1 lakh vehicles domestically within the first nine months of a single year. The announcement comes as the company accelerates its ambitious expansion into the Indian market.

In September 2025 alone, VinFast sold 13,914 electric vehicles, bringing its year-to-date total to 1,03,884 units — the highest annual figure ever recorded in Vietnam’s automotive history. The company also marked 11 consecutive months as the country’s top-selling car brand, according to a corporate statement.

As part of its global growth strategy, VinFast has made significant inroads into India, where it inaugurated an assembly plant in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu earlier this year. The facility, part of a phased investment worth up to ₹16,000 crore, has an initial capacity to assemble 50,000 SUVs annually, including its premium EV models VF 6 and VF 7.

“With production capacity scaling up at our Hai Phong and Ha Tinh complexes and three peak months of Q4 still ahead, we’re confident of achieving even more remarkable records by year-end,” said Duong Thi Thu Trang, VinFast’s Global Deputy CEO of Sales and Marketing. “We are deeply grateful for our customers’ trust and remain committed to driving Vietnam’s green mobility transformation,” she added.

Among VinFast’s lineup, the VF 3, dubbed Vietnam’s “national electric car,” led sales with 31,386 units sold so far in 2025. It was followed by the VF 5 with 30,956 units, including 8,604 fleet-focused Herio Green variants. The VF 6 ranked third with 14,425 units, while the Limo Green, a seven-seater MPV designed for ride-hailing and premium transport, delivered 2,120 vehicles in September alone, securing a top spot in its category.

In July 2025, VinFast opened its first Indian showroom in Surat, Gujarat, showcasing its VF 6 and VF 7 SUVs. The company aims to launch 35 dealerships across 27 cities in India by the end of this year.

With robust domestic sales and a strong push into international markets like India, VinFast appears well on track to solidify its reputation as one of Asia’s fastest-growing EV brands.
