Ranchi— The Jharkhand High Court has expressed sharp displeasure over the government’s failure to hold the Jharkhand Teacher Eligibility Test (JTET) for nine years, summoning the state’s Education Secretary to provide a clear timeline for the examination.
Hearing a petition filed by 402 teaching aspirants, Justice Ananda Sen observed that the government’s apathy has jeopardised the future of thousands of candidates seeking to enter the teaching profession.
The bench highlighted that since the state’s formation, JTET has been organised only twice — in 2013 and 2016. A fresh round advertised in 2024 was cancelled abruptly in mid-2025 after the government cited amendments in recruitment regulations. Nearly 3.65 lakh applications had already been submitted at that time.
Petitioners alleged that policy changes were being used as an excuse to delay the process, unfairly pushing aspirants beyond the eligibility age limit.
Terming the situation as “gross negligence,” the court has ordered the Education Secretary to appear in person on Thursday to explain both the delay and the government’s roadmap for conducting the exam.
