Jharkhand Sub-Post Master Nabbed by CBI for Bribery

Ranchi — A Sub-Post Master from Manoharpur in West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for allegedly accepting a ₹20,000 bribe from an investment agent promoting postal savings schemes.

The agent had helped bring in large deposits, and the accused postal officer allegedly demanded ₹1,18,000 as a cut from the earned commissions — 20% from Recurring Deposits and 75% from SAS (Standardised Agency System) schemes. After negotiations, the amount was settled at ₹20,000 as the first installment.

The CBI laid a trap and caught the official red-handed.

Meanwhile, in another incident, the Special CBI Court in Patna sentenced postal accountant Lohra Bhagat to two years’ rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹1.10 lakh for illegally drawing dual salaries — one from the postal department and another from the Bihar government between July 2010 and July 2013.

Bhagat received over ₹3.41 lakh from India Post and nearly ₹14.87 lakh from the Bihar government, along with other benefits such as a monthly leased vehicle.
