Los Angeles – Grammy Award-winning singer Mariah Carey has revealed that she still refuses to acknowledge her birthdays or keep track of time with clocks.
The 56-year-old music icon, born on March 27, 1969, prefers to celebrate “anniversaries” instead of birthdays and even insists she doesn’t have one at all.
In a conversation with Capital FM, when asked if it’s true she doesn’t acknowledge the passing of time, Carey confirmed, “That is true.” She also admitted she doesn’t pay attention to clocks.
When DJ Sian Welby asked, “So no clocks? Just not into that?” Carey responded, “Yeah. No, just let it go. I don’t have a birthday, no. Anniversaries, yes.”
Known for her five-octave vocal range and dubbed the “Songbird Supreme” by Guinness World Records, Carey explained that if she needs to arrange a meeting, her team handles it. “I would have someone call you and figure it out,” she told fellow DJ Jordan North, who joked that everything runs on “Mariah’s time.”
Carey has previously said she was “just dropped here,” describing her arrival on Earth as a “fairyland experience.” In an interview with Complex magazine, she remarked, “I don’t have a birthday. I was just dropped here.”
The “All I Want For Christmas Is You” singer often jokes that she is “eternally 12 years old.”
With over 220 million records sold globally, Carey is one of the best-selling artists of all time. She has been inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and has earned numerous accolades, including:
- 5 Grammy Awards
- 1 Grammy Global Impact Award
- 10 American Music Awards
- 19 World Music Awards
- 14 Billboard Music Awards
She also holds the record for the most Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles by a solo artist, female songwriter, and female producer, having spent a record 97 weeks at the top of the chart.
