Six Killed, Several Injured in Two Separate Road Accidents in Jharkhand’s Palamu and Latehar

Palamu – At least six people, including four children, were killed and over 15 others injured in two separate road accidents that occurred within hours of each other in Jharkhand’s Palamu and Latehar districts, officials confirmed on Thursday.

The first accident took place late Wednesday night on the Tarhasi-Padma main road, under the Tarhasi police station in Palamu district. A pickup van carrying a wedding procession collided head-on with a vehicle transporting a DJ sound system near Basdev Tiranga village.

The pickup was carrying around 15 people from Pasia Chunka village, traveling to Bohita village in the Leslieganj block for the wedding of Shivnath Singh Chero’s son. The collision occurred at a sharp turn, causing the pickup van to overturn. Two children were crushed and died on the spot.

Local residents rushed to help upon hearing cries for help. Police arrived shortly after and transported the injured to the Tarhasi health center. Eleven people were injured in the crash. They were later referred to Medini Rai Medical College Hospital in Medininagar, where two more children died from their injuries.

The deceased have been identified as 15-year-old Bachchu Kumar from Chero Nava village (Manatu), 14-year-old Chandan Kumar Yadav, a cousin of the groom, and two other children whose identities are yet to be confirmed.

The injured include Shakti Bhuiyan, Pawan Kumar, Bittu Singh, Sanjay Kumar, Manoj Kumar, Bikram Kumar, Kanchan Kumar, Sudhir Kumar, Rajesh Singh, Mandeep, and Sekendra Kumar. The vehicle carrying the DJ system reportedly fled the scene after the crash.

The second incident occurred Thursday morning in the Medhari Orsa Valley area under Mahuadanr police station in Latehar district. A speeding passenger car lost control and overturned, killing two people instantly and injuring ten others.

The injured were taken to the nearest hospital for treatment, according to police.
