CM Soren signals tribal-first push, seeks roadmap on land, language and rights

Ranchi: Chief Minister Hemant Soren, while speaking to media outside the state secretariat on Wednesday, said that the Tribal Advisory Council (TAC) held a detailed discussion on safeguarding tribal interests and shaping a roadmap for their holistic development.

“I chaired the meeting where all nominated members, including legislators, put forward critical points. The focus was on how we can preserve tribal language, culture and identity, ensure land rights for landless and tackle structural constraints faced by the community,” the Chief Minister said.

He said that departments have been instructed to prepare a comprehensive document covering all discussed issues. “We are exploring how to address the ‘structural compulsion’—the systemic bottlenecks—and design solutions that fit the ground reality,” he said.

Soren emphasized the important role of the Union government in ensuring development of marginalised groups. “Whether it’s farmers, labourers, or rural communities, multiple ministries—like Finance, Rural Development, and Labour—must work together. The Centre has a key role in ensuring state-level implementation reaches the last person.”

He clarified that this was an advisory-level meeting, and that final decisions will follow after departmental drafts are reviewed.
