Eradication of child marriage, child labour, illiteracy is necessary from the society: Governor

Ranchi: Governor Ramesh Bais said that it is necessary to eradicate child marriage, child labour and illiteracy from the society. He said that efforts are being made in the direction of child development and eradication of malnutrition, but still work is needed in these areas, along with working very actively in other areas such as children’s health, education and drinking water and sanitation facilities.

The Governor was addressing child journalists organized by UNICEF at Hotel BNR Chanakya on the occasion of World Children’s Day. Expressing happiness over the conduct of the Children’s Conference by the children, the Governor said that everyone has to work together with responsibility to ensure the rights of the children.

He said that today the excessive burden of studies on children is a matter of concern, parents are also worried but it should be understood that children’s brain develops with time and that is why more pressure on children is not appropriate. 

Former President of the country, Bharat Ratna Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam has said that one should dream and move forward on that path by setting goals. The Governor said that along with studies, general knowledge is also necessary. He said that today many resources are available for education but it should be used properly and not misused.

Child journalists expressed their views regarding their future before the Governor. Appreciating the child journalists for openly expressing their views and opinions on various issues, stage operation, street plays presented on social evils, cultural programs, he wished the children a bright future.

Jharkhand chief, UNICEF Dr Kaninika Mitra, Commonwealth Games silver medalist Dinesh Kumar, UNICEF members and child journalists were present on the occasion.
