Demonstration of Sahiyas ends after assurance of Health Minister

Ranchi: The dharna going on under the banner of Jharkhand Pradesh Sahiya Sangh ended on the third day after the assurance of Health Minister Banna Gupta. A demonstration was held in front of the Raj Bhawan on Thursday, the first day of the state-level protest in Ranchi. After this for the last two days the Sahiyas were protesting under the open sky at Morhabadi Maidan demanding an honorarium of Rs 18,000 per month and regularization.

Health Minister Banna Gupta said that Sahiyas are an important link in the health department of the state. The matter of increasing their honorarium is related to the Center and the State. He said that Chief Minister Hemant Soren
is also sensitive towards the issues of Sahiyas.

He said that he is thinking of finding a middle path over the issue. The minister said that he has talked to Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya several times for Sahiyas and said that he also personally believes that their honorarium is less. I am the son of poor and understand the pain of the poor very well he said adding that a departmental meeting will be held soon and will find a way out.

The minister said that we have also had talks with Chief Minister Hemant Soren in this regard. Very soon the Additional Chief Secretary of the Department, Sahiya’s representative, Bagodar MLA Binod Singh, former MLA Arup Chatterjee will hold a meeting together and will try to solve their problems.

Bagodar MLA Binod Singh said that the demand of Sahiyas is justified and he supported their demands. Even during the Corona pandemic they tried to keep the people of Jharkhand safe by crossing the threshold of the house. They do not get the same amount as the hard work they put in and are not given even minimum wages. Now the time has come that a concrete decision should be taken in the interest of the Sahiyas he said adding that it was also in the manifesto of the government that the government will be more serious about the demands of the contractual workers.
