Rains to continue for next few days in Jharkhand, deficit reduced to 42 pc

Ranchi: The local Meteorological Centre has issued a forecast of rain at many places over Jharkhand over the next few days. The Met Centre has also issued a (short-term) forecast of heavy rain in isolated pockets of southern Jharkhand.

The low-pressure area over the central parts of Madhya Pradesh is gradually becoming weak while the associated cyclonic circulation has merged with the monsoon trough which was crossing through Ranchi and Digha in neighbouring Bengal.

According to weather department officials, the rainfall activity is going to intensify after the next 24 hours due to the formation of another low-pressure area over the north Bay of Bengal. The Met Centre also issued a focus of heavy rain at isolated places over North West and Central parts of Jharkhand on August 13 and 14.

The good shower show during the past three days has helped in reducing the deficit to 42 per cent. Against a normal of 616.5 mm Jharkhand has so far received 348.3 mm. The weatherman said the rainfall during the next few days will further bring down the deficit figure.

The rainfall over the last few days has brought smiles back to the faces of the farmers who have again hit the fields and are hopeful of having at least some paddy cultivation now.
