Fodder Scam: Lalu Yadav sentenced for five years, fine of Rs 60 lakh imposed

A Special CBI court on Monday sentenced former Bihar Chief Minister and RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav for five years and also imposed a fine of Rs 60 lakh in case number RC 47A/96 which is related to fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 139.35 crore from Doranda Treasury of unified Bihar.

The court of special CBI Judge SK Sashi awarded the punishment to 38 convicts in the case via video conferencing. Lalu Yadav who is admitted at paying ward of RIMS Ranchi went through the court proceedings from the hospital itself.

Earlier on February 15 the court had held a total of 75 accused including Lalu Yadav guilty in the case while 24 others were acquitted by the court over lack of evidence.

The court had set February 21 as the date for announcing the quantum of sentencing against Lalu Yadav.

Lawyers of Lalu Yadav said that they will soon approach the high court over the matter and appear for bail on the grounds of ‘half sentencing’.

The court had completed the hearing in the case on January 29 itself and had set February 15 as the date for the announcement of the verdict. The court had directed all the accused to be physically present in the court.
