Violation of Lalu Yadav’s Jail Manual Case: HC fixes Jan 22 as next date of hearing

Ranchi: The case related to violation of jail manual by jailed former Bihar Chief Minister and RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav was taken up for hearing in the High Court on Friday.

   While presenting its side the state government before the court of Justice Apresh Kumar Singh said that there are no clear provisions in the jail manual regarding the facilities to be provided incase an inmate is shifted outside for medical treatment, further it also does not contain provisions as to whether a helper can be given from outside or not, moreover there is also no standard operating procedure.

   The government said that the jail manual is being updated and SOP is being also prepared. Once the SOP is ready all the facilities will be provided accordingly after which the court deferred the hearing to January 22 and instructed the government to present before it the SOP on that day.

   However the court observed that RIMS administration has not made it clear as to whether it had explored all the options before shifting Lalu Prasad to the Bunglow of RIMS Director. The court said that some other options should have been also explored and as per the rules and regulations decisions should have been taken.

  The jail IG through his report said that to prevent from Coronavirus infection Lalu Yadav was shifted to the Bunglow of RIMS Director.

  Separately the court has also fixed January 22 as the next date of hearing for two PILs which have been filed over violation of jail manual by Lalu Yadav during his stay at the Bunglow of RIMS Director.
