Ranchi, Sep 8: Country’s Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu said that illiteracy was the biggest hurdle for the development of the nation and blight for the nation.
Addressing a programme organized on the occasion of the World Literacy Day at the Prabhat Tara Grounds here he said that due to illiteracy the people are not able to understand their rights and responsibilities due to which they are not able to take advantage of the development scheme which are being run for them.
He said that Jharkhand was a tribal dominated state and if every resident of the state is not educated than they would not be able to reap the benefits of the schemes. He said that the goal of ‘sabka saath sabka vikas’ can be realized only when the entire Jharkhand state is educated.
Mr Naidu said that for the development of the nation it is important that the people are educated. He said that apart from the men the women too needed to be educated and said that he was happy to know the women education has been accorded priority in the state due to which among the newly literate te women were 70p per cent. He said that he was hopeful that in the next one-twio years due to the efforts of the government the gap between male and female literacy rate would be reduced to less than 10 pc.
Mr Naidu suggested that literacy should be run as a social campaign. He urged the people’s representatives, social workers, private institutions, teachers and parents to play an active role in this regard and make their important contribution to make a New India.
