Dumka, Sep 9: The Dumka police has managed to arrest all the 16 accused within 48 hours who were wanted in connection with a gang rape which took place near Dighi village under Massalia Police Station area.
The arrested youth were presented before the court of the chief judicial magistrate who forwarded them to jail. Mobile phones, a knife and a two wheeler have been recovered from the possession of the youth. All these arrested are residents of near by villages.
Dumka SP Pakur Patel told reporters that the victim has registered an FIR in this regard. He said that police would make sure that the culprits get severe punishment. He said that one of the accused is still absconding and added that the youth have confessed to their crime.
The SP said that the clothes of the girl, hair clip and other evidences would be sent to Ranchi forensic lab. He said that a proposal would be also sent to the state government so that a police out post can be built in university premises but for the time being patrolling would be intensified in the area.
The girl was gang raped on Wednesday night while she was out with her boyfriend. The victim use to work in a two-wheeler showroom in Dumka.
