Lalu Yadav gets bail but will stay in jail

Ranchi: Former Bihar Chief Minister and RJD president Lalu Yadav got bail in a fodder scam case on Friday but he will stay in jail in other cases.

Jharkhand High Court on Friday granted bail to Lalu Yadav in Chaibasa treasury fraudulent case. Justice Apresh Singh of the High Court granted bail on the ground of spending of half of the jail term in the Chaibasa treasury fraudulent case. He was awarded five years jail in the Chaibasa treasury case

Lalu Yadav has been convicted in four fodder scam. In 2013 he was convicted in one fodder case. He was convicted in three other cases of fodder scam cases in 2017 and 2018.

During the last hearing in court on September 11, CBI had opposed the bail Lalu Yadav had not completed 30 months (half of the sentence) of the jail. Lalu Yadav had pleaded that Lalu Yadav had completed 29 months which almost half of the jail period of five years. The Jharkhand High Court had put the hearing on today and granted bail.

Lalu Yadav has got bail in two cases but he will remain in jail in the Dumka treasury fraudulent withdrawal case. He has been awarded two consequent seven years jail in the Dumka treasury case.

Lalu Yadav at present staying at Kelly residence designated for the director of Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS), Ranchi.

Lalu Yadav convicted in four fodder scam cases was staying at the paying ward of RIMS instead of Birsa Munda central on health and treatment reason. He was shifted to RIMS director bungalow due to Coronavirus fear. Lalu Yadav is staying in RIMS for more than two years. When he was shifted to Kelly residence the BJP had raised questions over.

In a separate case, the high court has also sought the reason for Lalu Yadav staying at RIMS director residence from jail administration.
