Older age male and female inmates should be provided pension: CM

Ranchi: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has directed the officials to make sure that old age male and female inmates should be given a pension.

He said that inmates who are being released due to old age should not face any problems and they should be given the benefits of pension, ration cards and Aawas Yojana. Chairing the meeting of the imprisonment revision committee he said that there was a need to work out plans so that these people are not able to face any problems.

He asked the officials to make a policy so that the old age inmates lodged in different jails of the state can be provided with the pension scheme. He said that apart from the money which the inmates make in lieu of the work provided to them by the jail administration the government has plans to provide them with pensions. He further directed the officials to prepare a database of the nature of the crime committed by SC and ST inmates so that the government can do something for them.

The Chief Minister also directed to appoint psychiatrists so that they can do counseling of the inmates as due to lack of knowledge the inmates are not able to fight their cases.

While considering the requests for release of the inmates the nature of crime, conduct, age, time spent in prison, their criminal mentality and socio-economic condition of the family of the inmate are being considered. However, for extreme offenses, their plea would not be considered.

Those present on the occasion included Chief Secretary Sukhdev Singh, Additional Chief Secretary Home L Khiyangate, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Rajeev Arun Ekka were present.
