7 tonnes of explosive material seized by Godda Police

Godda: Police has seized a vehicle carrying nearly 7 tonnes of explosive materials from Mahgama Police Station area of this district and has arrested a person in this connection.

Godda SP YS Ramesh said that from the vehicle explosives weighing 2.78 kilograms 2061 pieces, non electronic detonators 50 pieces each measuring 22 meters, non electronic detonator 200 pieces each measuring 4 meters have been seized. A person identified as Sarfu Khan hailing from Katras of Dhanbad district has also been arrested.

He said that a tip off had been received following which a vehicle checking drive was launched at Mohanpur Chowk under Mahgama Police Station area. During the drive a speeding SUV and a truck following close behind were signalled to stop but instead of stopping the SUV fled while the truck was caught.

From the truck a person managed to flee while another one was caught. The SP said that these explosives are mostly used in the stone mines, however a team has been constituted which would probe as to from where these explosives had come and where they were meant to be supplied.
