Jharkhand govt suspends Seraikela DC and SP in lynching of seven people

Ranchi, June 09 :  In a major step Jharkhand govt suspended Seraikela-Kharsawa district, Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police (SP) in connection with lynching of  seven people over child lifting rumours.

“ Chief Minister has ordered suspension of Seraikela DC Ramesh Ghopal and SP Rakesh Bansal with immediate effect” says a press release of the state govt. The govt sources say that action has been taken based on the report submitted by the two member committee.

Jharkhand govt has constituted a two member committee headed by Kolhan Commissioner and Deputy Inspector General of Police over killing of seven people in Seraikela and Jamshedpur districts last month over child lifting rumors.

Rumours of ‘bacha chor’ or child lifters has claimed several lives in the state over the past fortnight, with maximum number of deaths being reported from Jamshedpur region followed by Bokaro and Dhanbad districts.

In the last two months, irate village mobs have attacked men on the suspicion of being child lifters in which several persons lost their lives while many others sustained serious injuries.

In two  incidents  in Raj Nagar village of Seraikela-Kharsawa district and Bagbera Police Station area of the East Singhbhum districts claimed the lives of seven persons suspected of being child lifters. According to surces in the govt the Seraikela DC and SP did not act on time which caused spread of rumors in neighboring Jamshedpur killing three more people.
In Rajnagar four people were beaten to death and three people were beaten to Bagbera of Jamshedpur.  Anti social elements had spread rumours of child lifting through Whatsapp groups.
