Jharkhand ADGP suspended over 2016 RS polls case

Ranchi (IANS) The Hemant Soren government in Jharkhand on Friday ordered the suspension of ADGP (CID) Anurag Gupta in connection with the conduct of the Rajya Sabha polls in the state in 2016.

Gupta, a 1990-batch IPS officer, was accused of working in favour of a BJP candidate at the behest of the then state government headed by Raghubar Das.

In an audio clip that went viral, the Additional Director General of Police (Gupta) was heard talking to Congress leader Yogendra Sao and asking the latter to vote for his legislator wife Nirmla Devi. He was accused of using foul language against the then Leader of Opposition and present Chief Minister Hemant Soren.

Soren had lodged an FIR against Gupta at the Scheduled Tribes police station in Ranchi in 2016.

The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and the Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) had complained to the Election Commission against Gupta. Following EC orders, an FIR was lodged against the police officer and then CM’s Press Adviser Ajay Kumar in 2018 at the Jaggnath police station.
