Raghubar to attend meet called by Union Home Minister to tackle Maoists

Ranchi, May 7: Chief Minister Raghubar Das would be participating in a
meeting which has been called by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to
assess the progress being made in anti-Maoist operations in the
country and also to discuss new strategies keeping in mind the couple
of heavy Maoist ambush incident which took place in Sukma of
neighbouring district of Chhattisgarh.
Apart from him hs counterparts from Chhattisgarh, Odisha, west Bengal,
Bihar, Maharsahtra, Telengana, UP, MP and AP have been invited for the
meet. District magistrates and SPs of 35 worst hit districts besides
head of paramilitary forces and intelligence agencies would also
attend the meeting.
The Maoists incidents in the state during the first quarters
January-April 2017 has seen an upsurge with more than 200 incidents
being reported.
In April 2015 the number of Maoist related incidents was 165 in 2016
it was 151 while in 2017 it crossed the 200 mark to stand at 215
incidents. Out of these 88 incidents involved the CPI(Maoists), 80
PLFI, TPC 26, JPC 8, JJMP 7, SJMM 2 and JTJ 4 incidents.
During the period January-April 2017 a total of 961 special
anti-insurgency operations were conducted during which 215 maoists
were arrested wile 30 Maoists surrendered. A sum of Rs 94,19,940
collected as levy by the Maoists was also seized by the police and
large quantity of arms and ammunitions recovered.
In 2017 two policemen were martyred in Maoists attack while 15
villagers also ended up losing their lives while 17 ultras were also
shot dead. Jharkhand Police which most recently managed to make the
Nakul  Yadav the head of Bihar Regional Committee of the Maoists
carrying a reward of 15 lakh went on to recover a huge cache of arms
and ammunitions from Lohardaga.
On top of the agenda for the Monday’s meet is to find out ways to
make anti-naxal activities more effective and to ensure less loss of
lives of the jawans. The meet would also dwell upon road construction
and other developmental works in Maoists hit areas as road opening
parties of the CRPF who have been targeted mostly by the Maoists in
Chhattisgarh.
The meeting has been called after a fortnight when the Maoists
struck on a road opening party of the CRPF in Sukma district killing
25 men of the CRPF. In  less than two months 37 CRPF men have been
killed by the Maoists in Chattisgarh forcing the government to rethink
its strategy to tackle the menace.
