Lawyers in Jharkhand protest against amendments in Advocate Bill

Ranchi, Apr 21: Lawyers across the state as per the directions of the
Bar Council of India protested against the amendments proposed in the
advocate bill by the Law Commission and indulged in burning of effigy
of the commission and also burnt the copies of the bill.
In the state capital Ranchi lawyers under the banner of Ranchi Zila
Bar Association indulged in slogan shouting against the amendments at
the new bar building and also took out a procession in the civil court
premises. After the demonstrations the lawyers also burnt the effigy
of the chairman of the law commission while in the second half lawyers
stayed away from legal proceedings.
General Secretary of the Association Sanjay Kumar Vidrohi said that
the amendments which have been sent to the Parliament are against the
lawyers and was not acceptable to them. The Bar association has
launched a signature campaign against the law commission in which more
than 500 lawyers have already signed. The copy of the letter would be
sent to the Union Law Minister through the Governor of the state.
A report from Dhanbad said that protesting against the Advocates
Amendment Bill 2017 lawyer under the aegis of Dhanbad Bar Association
held demonstrations at the Randhir Verma Chowk here and also burnt the
effigy of Law Commission chairman justice B S Chouhan.
The lawyers also burnt the copies of the bill and also refrained from
legal proceedings and work for many hours. District Bar Association
chairman Radheshaym Goswami said that the lawyers across the country
are in anger against the bill. He said that the bill was being opposed
and the chairman of law commission should be saced.
He said that many restrictions are being imposed by the means of the
new bill which are against the lawyers. He said that it was a well
planned conspiracy to snatch the demoractic rights of the lawyers and
said that it would make justice difficultu for the people and the
society.
Mr Goswami said that if the bill comes into effect it would mark a
black chapter in  the history of the nation. He said that the bill was
unconstitutional and it was an attack on the rights of the lawyers.
Lawyers of the Palamu district under the banner of District Advocate
Association hit the roads and burnt the copies of The Advocate
Amendment Bill 2017 and also did not allow legal work to take place
after the post lunch session.
The advocates demanded that the chairman of the Law Commission be
replaced by another senior lawyer. District Lawyers Association
president Girija Prasad Singh expressed his gratitude towards the
lawyers for maintaining their unity during teh agitation.
The lawyers later also handed over a memorandum to the DC demanding
that the bill be withdrawn and the law commission chairman be
replaced.
