Hemant Soren raises questions over EVM

Ranchi: JMM’s acting president Hemant Soren has raised questions over the The functioning of the EVMs and in an indirect demand has advocated for the need of conducting the polls through ballot paper.

Addressing a Press Conference at the end of party’s high-level meet to assess the outcome of the Lok Sabha polls he said that the victory of the Congress party in the Municipal Elections of Karnataka is an indication that instead of EVM ballot paper should be used for the polls.

In an indirect reference he also raised questions over the authenticity of the EVM machine. He said that if somebody thinks that post the defeat of Guruji and other candidates of the party jmm has been wiped out then it is a big mistake for them.

He said that after the elections the party has moved forward and also highlighted the preparations policy and the shape of the mahagathbandhan for the upcoming Vidhan Sabha elections. Over the defeat in the Lok Sabha polls he said that party has held a review meeting with the candidates and discussed the lack of preparations was even at the organisation level.

Earlier in the meeting it was said that since jmm was the second largest party in the state and was also the main opposition party in the Assembly therefore the responsibility of welfare of a large section of the people of the state was also on the party.

In the meeting it was decided that going into the future and keeping into mind the upcoming Vidhan Sabha elections the party and its policies would be for the restaurant hand and jmm would fight the next elections on its true principles.

It was decided that the party will go among the people and make them aware of the anti-people decisions of the Raghubar Das government for which special focus would be accorded on the women and youth. Mr Soren said that EVM was only a machine while voting was a constitutional right for the people but with the use of the EVM one does not get the correct information whether it is being used properly or not.

He said that since in a democratic country like us people should have the right to know the reality of this but EVM machines do not provide this Liberty. On the tally of be VVPAT papers he said it was too early to comment as he had received information that there were descrepencies in its tally.

Over the Vidhan Sabha elections he said that JMM would play the big brothers role. He said that the BJP through its many Agencies and paid staff was trying to mislead the people therefore it was important that mahagathbandhan remains intact however the number of the seats on which each of the parties would contest was not divulged by him.
