Ranchi, Mar 28: Chief Secretary Rajbala Verma said that in-order to
bring the fish rearers above the poverty line in the state it was
needed to encourage more fisheries production.
Chairing a review meeting regarding the progress being made in the
fisheries and poultry sector in the state she said that during the
financial yaer 2016-17 the state had achieved success in the area of
fish production. However to make the state sufficient in the fisheries
there was still a need to work at the different levels, she said.
Ms Verma said that during the fiscal 2016-17 against a target of
producing 425 crore fish seeds, 415 crore fish seeds was carried out,
she asked the officials to prepare plans so that 2000 crore fish seeds
can be prepared for the year 2017-18. She asked the officials to
prepare a list of big water bodies in the state and also make
assessment of the fish seeds required and also asked to identify the
places were the hatcheries can be built.
The officials of the department said that construction work for 65
hatcheries were on in the state which is expected to be completed in
April. In each hatchery 5-7 crore fish seeds would be produced. It was
directed that river fish farming should be tripled in the state and
beneficiaries should be trained regarding safety measures and camps
should be held for training in fish production. It was informed that
700 tasks were carried out related to river fish farming during the
year 2016-17.
The Chief Secretary said that for encouraging poultry groups should be
formed and for the identified groups loans should be provided under
the Stand Up India scheme and they should be linked with poultry
farming. She asked the officials to prepare plans so that the target
of producing 12 crore eggs in the state can be realised and on the
same basis the number of breeder farms be constructed. Ms Verma
directed that expression of interest should be issued so that a net
manufacturing factory can be set up in the state and such companies
who would be applying for the same for them land should be identified
and benefits under the small scale industries be shared.
The officials of the department said that under Jharfresh the logo has
been prepared and on April 15 in Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Bokaro and
Dhanbad live fish and ready to cook pattern would be started while
funds for insulated vans have been provided in the budget. Secretary
Agriculture and AnimalHusbadry Pooja Singhal was also present on the
occasion.
