Ranchi: After two days of questioning the Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday arrested senior IAS officer of 2000 batch (Jharkhand cadre) Pooja Singhal. She is the second person to have been arrested in this case.
Prior to her the ED had arrested CA Suman Kumar. He was the one who looked after the work of the IAS officer and her husband Abhishek Jha. It was from his home that ED had recovered a sum of Rs 19.31 crore in cash. For the last two days ED had been questioning her and her husband.
On Tuesday Pooja Singhal was questioned for 9 hours. Prior to her arrest a team of doctors from Sadar Hospital was called to examine her health conditions. On Tuesday the ED had asked her not to leave Ranchi and even her husband was asked not to leave the headquarters.
Earlier on Wednesday during the second day of questioning the ED had asked questions to her regarding her source of income, her role in Mnrega scam and cash kept in her account. During the day a team of the ED also conducted raids at the house of one Abhijeet Sen in Kolkata. After recovery of some details questions were asked to her by the ED sleuths to which she failed to come up with appropriate answers and was subsequently arrested.
On the other side on Wednesday also her husband Abhishek Jha and CA Suman Singh were also questioned by the CA. Meanwhile, two big boxes full of documents that were seized during raids from Ranchi and other parts have been brought to the ED office. Sleuths of the ED had conducted multiple raids across Bihar, West Bengal, Delhi and Rajasthan apart from Jharkhand related to Pooja Singhal and her close associates.
