BJP MPs of Jharkhand write to Raghubar against school mergers

Ranchi, Aug 9: All the 12 BJP MPs from Jharkhand have written a letter to Chief Minister Raghubar Das protesting against the decision of school mergers and demanded that the process be stopped immediately.

They have said that the entire idea is unfortunate which will increase illiteracy therefore its should be stopped immediately and steps should be taken to improve the education system. The state government has plans to merge more than 6000 primary and middle schools and so far merger of about 2,5000 schools have taken place.

In the letter which is dated August 8 the MPs have said that for the last few months on the basis of students number the primary and middle schools are being merged with the near by schools due to which there was anger among the rural people. They said that it was under Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee that under Sarv Siksha Abhiyaan these schools were opened to educate the children. They said that the people were angered with this move.

The letter further states that after the closure of schools the condition of school buildings will decline and they would turn into a hanging spot for anti-social elements. The MPs said that population the villages have increased and due to lack of teachers and mis-management the children are opting for private schools. The MPs have also pointed the difficult geographical terrain of the state which will make tiugh for children to travel from one area to another therefore they have demanded that the number of teachers be increased and the decision of merger be stopped for one year.

The letter has been signed by Dr Ravindra Kumar Rai, PN Singh, Jayant Sinha, Sudarshan Bhagat, Sunil Kumar Singh, Vidyut Baran Mahto, VD Ram, Kariya Munda, Ravindra Pandey, Nishikant Dubey and Ramtahal Chowdhary.
