Jharkhand ranked fourth on Ease of Doing Business Index

Ranchi, Jul 10: Jharkhand this time around has managed to turn the table and jumped to the fourth position in ‘Ease of Doing Business’ ranking among states and union territories (UTs) prepared by the World Bank and Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) on Tuesday.

Andhra Pradesh and Telangana were joint toppers in the 2017 while Jharkhand was at the 7th position in the Ease of Doing Business ranking. But in 2018, Andhra Pradesh topped the chart with a score of 98.42 per cent while Telangana slipped down to number 2, scoring 98.33 per cent, Haryana 98.07 per cent, Jharkhand with 97.99 per cent and Gujarat with 97.96 per cent came third, fourth and fifth respectively.

The other states in the top achievers category are Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka and Rajasthan. The big industrialised states of Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu are ranked 13th and 15th respectively while Delhi is at the 23rd position. The bottom three ranks have been taken up by Arunachal Pradesh, Lakshadweep and Meghalaya.

Lauding the achievements of the state Chief Minister Raghubar Das said the improvement in the ranking was mainly due to policies conducive for investment and has extended his congratulations to Team Jharkhand and people of the state.

Mr Das who took to twitter to announce the results of the rankings said that in reform evidence scorecard the state was at the number one position  while in the feedback scorecard the state was at the fifth position .”Congratulations to team Jharkhand for this success. Our target is to lay a network of industries in the state to create employment so that poverty can be removed from the state,” he tweeted.
