Ranchi, Jun 12: Jharkhand’s Food and Civil Supplies Minister Saryu Rai today said that the woman in Chainpur panchayat of Dumri block of Giridih district who had died on June 2 had a natural death and was a not a hunger related death as publicized by the media.
Addressing a press conference at the project building here he said that it was indeed unfortunate that the death had been described as a hunger death. He said that as the department was not satisfied with the report of additional collector a team of the department led by joint secretary Vinay Kumar Rai and additional director Sanjay Kumar was sent to conduct an independent investigation.
Their report clearly says that Savitri Devi did not die of hunger and there are other reasons of her death which needed to be thought and deliberated on. Sharing the report with the media he said that the statement of both her sons was also taken and the BDO and the marketing officer tried to convince the family to have a post-mortem which was denied by them in written. Moreover the family had also not applied for ration card.
