Ranchi, Jun 5: Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das said that Jharkhand will be free from the use of plastic by June 5, 2019 and called on the the people to put in their efforts so that they too contribute in making the state plastic free.
Addressing a programme organised on the occasion of the world environment day at the Tana Bhagat Indoor Stadium here he said that with the involvement of the people a movement will have to be started against the use of plastic. He said that due to pollution the fish were dying in the rivers. Mr Das said that in the traditional culture the land is considered as Mother.
The Chief Minister said that it takes plastic 500-1000 years to get dissolved permanently during which many harmful gases also emitted out. He announced that a plastic recycling plant will be set up in the state soon. He said that recycled water will be supplied to the power plants and it will be made compulsory for them to use the recyclable water.
Adding further he said that the government will work to make Jharkhand a green state by protecting its land water and forest and said that forest produce will also be encouraged for which the state government will be creating haats and markets. Mr Das said that use of bamboo, Sal and mahua will be encouraged. He said that in Pakur and Sahibganj jute cultivation will be encouraged.
Speaking at the function Chief Secretary Sudhir Tripathi said that there was a need to make earth a better place for the future generations and the people should be encouraged to get closer to nature and remain away from use of plastic. Additional Chief Secretary of the Forest and Environment Department Indu Shekhar Chowdhary said that plastic has been banned in the state.
