Counting of bypolls for Silli and Gomia on Thursday

Bokaro/Ranchi, May 30 : The counting of votes for the by-polls to
Gomia and Silli seats of the Jharkhand Assembly will be held on
Thursday from 0800hrs.

The counting of votes for Gomia will be held at BSL School located
in sector one of Bokaro Steel City while for Silli the counting will
be taken up at the premises of Pandra Bazar Samiti. 18 rounds of
counting in Gomia.

Addressing a press conference at the collectorate here Ranchi DC
Rai Mahimpet Rey said that the counting of votes will take place in a
single hall in which 25 counting assistants, 25 observers and 25 micro
observers will be pressed into duties. He said that the counting of
votes will be held on 20 tables each for Silli and Gomia.

The DC said that first the postal ballots will be counted after
which the first round of counting of votes will commence. He said that
the district administration has completed all the preparations for the
counting.

 

The bypolls for the two seats was held on May 28 with Gomia
registering a voter turn out of 63.25 per cent while that of Silli was
75.5 per cent. A total of 10 candidates were in race from Gomia while
13 were vying to reach the assembly from Silli.

Gomia witnessed a three cornered fight between Madhav Lal Singh of
the BJP, Lambodar Mahto of the AJSU and Babita Devi of JMM while in
Silli AJSU supremo Sudesh Mahto is fighting it out with Seema Devi of
the JMM.

The bypolls for the two seats were necessitated as JMM MLAs from
Gomia Yogendra Mahto and Amit Mahto from Silli lost the membership of
the house after being convicted by separate courts in different cases.
