Ranchi: The incessant rainfall for the last 24 hours has once again thrown life out of gear in the state with even the localities and colonies getting submerged in water.
Such has been the rainfall scenario in the state that the authorities are contemplating opening the gates of Hatia Dam. Such a scenario has emerged after 15 years. The state capital has so far received 1138 mm of rainfall so far against an average annual rainfall of 1018 mm.
In July the water level in Hatia Dam was 22.6 feet which increased to 32 feet in August while by September 21 it reached to 37 feet. The Hatia Dam has a water holding capacity of 39 feet and once the water level touches 38 feet the slipway gates will be opened. Earlier this year the gates of Kanke Dam were opened once. The rainfall which started on Tuesday continued throughout the day on Wednesday.
Scientists at the local weather station said that a low pressure has been formed in Gangetic Southern Plains of West Bengal and its turf line was passing through Jharkhand and other adjoining states therefore rainfall was taking place in the state and similar weather conditions will remain till September 25. In this month the average annual rainfall ratio has improved in all the districts.
Overall Jharkhand has received 940mm of rainfall so far however among the districts Gumla and Pakur have reported a rain deficit of around 33 percent.
