Commerce Ministry organises Vanijya Utsav to celebrate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav

Ranchi: The Department of Commerce under Ministry of Commerce and Industry is organizing Vanijya Saptah from Sept 20th to 26th across the country to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Indian independence by holding various events to showcase the potential of exporters and manufacturers during this week. As part of Vanijya Saptah, Industry department, Government of Jharkhand in association with DGFT and Shellac ans Forest Products EPC (SHEFEXIL) organised Vanijya Utsav at a city hotel on Tuesday providing a platform to the industry players of Jharkhand to interact with policy makers and leaders under one roof.

Another session is also being planned on Wednesday. In his welcome note, Jitendra Kumar Singh, Director Industries discussed about strength of Jharkhand state namely its rich flora and fauna, leading producer of minerals, Iron and coal, locational advantage, availability of skilled manpower, lucrative sector specific policies and sector specific industrial park in the state. He also highlighted about key provisions for Export oriented units in Jharkhand industrial and Investment promotion policy 2021.

Dilip Soni, Chairman, SHEFEXIL talked about mines and minerals strength, rich human resource and immense export potential of the state. Nitin Kulkarni, Director, Institute of Forest Productivity highlighted about forest coverage of Jharkhand being at 29% . He further put light on abundance of Non-timber forest produce in Jharkhand state namely being Shellac, Gums & resins beside emphasizing on need for processing various fruit yielding species available readily in the state. He talked about immense opportunities in bamboo sector beside exploring more areas.

K K Sharma, Director , Indian Institute of Natural Resins and Gums talked about Jharkhand being second largest Export Revenue generator in the Resins & Gums field, which are being exported to more than 100 countries, he emphasized on growth in Export keeping in view of sustainable development and environmental Impact assessment . Later he spoke about Jharkhand’s immense strength in forest produce and applauded the government for announcing MSP for forest produce ensuring fair and good price for produce.

He expressed his concerns for Lac produce not being covered in Agri- produce, and its producers not being considered as farmers, thus not eligible for availing loans and financial aid from FI’s & Banks. He ended his session by emphasizing on value addition of forest produce by setting up R&D and support help centers.

Yashvir Singh, Economic Advisor, Government of India, started his address by talking about the abundant presence of raw materials primarily forest produce in Jharkhand like LAC, honey, resins & gums. He emphasized on value addition of produce to be marketed at global level, primarily to developed nations. He also talked about exploring of opportunities during the ongoing times of pandemic, how the nation fought efficiently during the times of COVID, the way challenges were addressed. At last he spoke about the startup scenario at large, where he discussed that young budding entrepreneurs handholding is need of the hour.
