Former Bihar Minister Bandi Oraon passes, CM and others express grief

Ranchi: Former president of Chottanagpur Santhal Pargana Regional Congress Committee and Planning Minister in unified Bihar Bandi Oraon has passed away.

Popularly known in the state as Baba Bandi Oraon he breathed his last at his residence located at Bagicha Toli, Itki Road of the capital around 11 pm. He was 90.

Upon receiving information leaders cutting across party lines reached at his residence and offered their tributes.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren said that for a state like Jharkhand Shri Bandi Oraon had did exemplary work and his ideals and thoughts will always remain alive among the people.

Jharkhand Congress Chief Dr Rameshwar Oraon said that he had family relationships with late Bandi Oraon and he was his ‘guru’ as a police officer. He said that Bandi Oraon was such a person who gave his entire life for the betterment of the tribals.

The last rites of late Bandi Oraon will be held on Wednesday at Datiya village in Bharno block of Gumla district. Prior to that his body will be brought to Congress headquarters where tributes will be paid to him.

From Congress headquarters the body will be taken to New Vidhan Sabha premises where tributes will be again paid to him and from there his body will be taken via road to his ancestral village for his last rites.

Health Minister Banna Gupta, Mandar MLA Bandhu Tirkey and others also paid their tributes to the late leader.
