11th national junior womens hockey championship cancelled, as 11 players and a coach test positive for Covid-19

Simdega: Due to the rising cases of coronavirus the 11th National Junior Women’s Hockey championship which was scheduled to be held in Simdega from April 3 to 12 has been cancelled.

Simdega DC Sushant Gaurav on Wednesday said that due to rising cases of coronavirus it has been decided to cancel the championship.      He said that on Tuesday the team from Chandigarh had reached Simdega to participate in the competition however during the Corona test five of their players were found to be infected and even 6 players from Jharkhand tested positive for covid-19, apart from them a coach also tested positive for coronavirus.

He said that as a total of 12 people tested positive for coronavirus the astroturf hockey stadium has been declared a containment zone and the tournament has been cancelled.

In the championship, a total of 27 teams were scheduled to participate however only so far the team from Chandigarh had reached the city. On Wednesday all those who had tested positive for coronavirus were shifted to Covid Care hospital.
