PM speaks with archer Savita Kumari, asks her to win Olympic Medal

Ranchi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday spoke with international archer Savita Kumari who is among the 32 children who have been selected for Rashtriya Bal Puraskar.

Interacting with her he said that she had come out of Jharkhand to become an International player and has set an example before other girls of the country and asked her to win an Olympic medal. He said that daughters of Jharkhand are making a name for themselves.

The Prime Minister said that these girls are coming out of small villages and towns and making the world note of their talent and are an inspiration before the other children of the country. He even asked Savita as to how and when she had decided to make her career in Archery.

On this Savita said that she had joined the Kasturba School Sonahatu where she was informed about archery and after that she decided to make a career in the field. When the Prime Minister asked as to what she wanted to achieve in future as now she was an International player she said that she wants to play for the nation and gets energised after listening to the national anthem whenever it is played on the foreign soil.

In the year 2016 Archery coach of Birsa Munda Academy Silli Prakash Ram and Shishir Mahto spotted Savita and later finalised her as a talent player for archery. In 2018 she was selected in the Junior Indian Team and in the South Asian Archery Championships which was held in Bangladesh she won the gold medal in team event.
