Classes in 3 new medical colleges to commence from 2018-19: Chandravanshi

Ranchi, Sep 10: State’s Health Minister Ramchandra Chandravanshi said that after four decades the MBBS seats would be double from the present 300.

Addressing the press at the Suchana Bhawan here while highlighting the achievements of his department over the past 1000 days he said that under Mukhyamnatri Swasthya Bima Yojana insurance is being provided to all the families while soon the 108 ambulance facility would also be started in the state.

He said that construction work at three medical colleges in the state Palamu, Hazaribagh and Dumka was going with full speed and the department has filed an application before the medical council of India so that classes of MBBS with 100 seats can be commenced from 2018-19. Further the department has prepared the DPR for three new medical colleges in the state so that in future another 300 seats are added for MBBS. He said that the government has provided lands for AIIMS.

He said that a separate 10 bed internal department for cancer in RIMs would be started soon while a sum of Rs 429 crore has been approved to build a 500 bed in MGM Jamshedpur while Rs 150 crore would be invested to build a super specialty wing PMCH Dhanbad. He said that new wing of Sadar Hospital which has been buit at Rs 307.92 crore was under construction while in the same hospital a separate ward for women and children has commenced functioning. He said that people having annual income of Rs 72,000 have been covered under Chief Minister serious disease treatment scheme. He said that a dental college in RIMS has also been started with 50 seats and the number of PG seats has been increased from 185 to 193.

Additional Chief Secretary of the Health Department Sudhir Tripathi said that in the country the total number of MBBS seats was 67000, while the population of Jharkhand was three percent of the nation therefore here atleast there should be 2000 medical seats where as at present there are only 300 seats and once doubled it would reach only 600 seats. He said that department was trying to fill up the post of the doctors and specialist doctors which are vacant in the state.
